How is channelsurfing.net legal

You can make the argument that the damages as a whole were to everyone since a freely available stream took away the incentive for a legal one to surface. I can see those damages. And I'm not throwing stones at anyone who chose to use it however they see fit. I am saying, though, that the petition isn't arguing he had the right to distribute the videos, because there is no legal defense for it. This was the part of your original post that Mar 10, , PM. Legally that was wrong, but defensible morally form the viewpoint that I was not depriving any legal distribution channel the profit they'd receive from licensing the rights".

Its not any more defensible morally than people who watched a boxing event they could have purchased on PPV. You are always going to be able to find damages somewhere in the forms of alternate entertainment foregone by watching the streams. Thats why I responded, it seemed you were trying to place your use of CS in some kind of special category that is "less bad" than most-thats bs. I agree though, your take on the petition is correct and props for pointing that out.

I get that Mar 10, , PM. I do think there is a difference in looking at something as being legally allowed and looking at it as being morally acceptable.

I may be splitting hairs, but I think the "who does it harm" argument can come into play when you make decisions on the later. I see the damages of using it to watch things you have legal though paid access to as greater than things which you can't purchase even if you wanted to. But thats just my take, and admittedly it could be self-justification on my end. In the end, though, my usage certainly was no more legal than any other, and the petition seems to not be arguing that the videos themselves were legally distributed.

Good luck to them on trying to argue that he was simply providing links when the pages themselves were branded and advertised by channelsurfing. Just, HUH? The commentary on whatever channel is showing Liga football over here in Asia has comparatively dull commentary, I want more of this. I need to switch my internet to faster speed and connect it to my TV for big games or something. I have been working on this for a while.

I moved to the California from the middle east less than 2 years ago. Back there, worrying about where to watch the game was a non issue. When i moved here, that all went away. There were weeks and months of looking for a way to watch my beloved sport.

I discovered streams after that and personally, i hated it. No guarantee on a clear picture, lagging time and then sudden shutting down of stream. Despite all that, i was still very happy that i could watch some Futball!

In the summer while visiting the family back home Lebanon for whoever is concerned , i saw a commercial about Al Jazeera working on expanding to covering the US. The channel was making sure if it can get clearance from the government as it was illegal?

I am giving them a call tomorrow to check up on how that expansion has gone and will definitely update whoever is interested. To be honest im not sure if it was 45 or 75, but somewhere around that range.

I will probably do a post on the offside about it and throw you guys a link. As for the legal validity of streaming sites, I have a different opinion. But this was done, like Luke noted, right before the super bowl as big channels that control that event want viewers tuned in to their channel. Big media station puts pressure on government, government has to protect the rights of those rich media stations and keep them happy so they do this.

The media is probably as strong as a nuclear weapon these days. As many other people said, if they are based outside the US, they cant shut them down. They can though, block users within the US from accessing those sites.

I doubt that would happen though. Where I live here now in Maldives and before in Malaysia, seeing Liga and CL games is never an issue but no channel we get shows Copa games. Does Jazeera Sport show Cup games? I would have hated to miss out on the Cup final. I switched internet recently and streams are way too slow to see literally anything except a few seconds then long pause then another few seconds.

They do cover the Copa. I know that it needs its own subscription seperate of Al Jazeera but best of luck. Here is a wiki link of the football and sporting events they cover:. Was there a Revista episode this week by any chance?

If so, anyone with a download link? Napster was a limewire-like tool that most of you will know ; a program that indexed and helped users connect with each other to share their music. They are hosting hash files that contain info about files that are hosted somewhere else ,and are only linking towards the files.
