But there may have some differences in some terms. Some colloquial terms may arise a little problem. But yes, we understand each other. I am wondering what others think.

Pretty much all the same, however in parts of Chittagong, their Bengali is a bit different. Most people talk in Bengali in Bangladesh but some places in India sometimes the peaple talk in bengali! It's similar mutually intelligible for sure.

The bangla spoken by high caste Hindus in both bengals is very similar. But aside from that you would find that as you go from east to west you would find that the dialect would shift ever so slightly For example the bangla spoken by rural communities in Dhaka would sound less like the bangla spoken in Kolkata than would the rural bangla spoken in Khulna which is closer to the western Indian border. Until you hit an urban centre where exposure to media from the respective cultural centres of the two bengals Kolkata and Dhaka would tend to result in the speaking of the standardised dialects of the two bengals.

Then Dhaka was made administrative capital of East Bengal. However, when Pakistan was created, religion formed the basis for it being given to Pakistan as majority of the population was Muslim in East Bengal. Even after independence, East Bengal was dominated by the rich and powerful classes from the western part of Pakistan, and this led to a massive revolt led by people of East Bengal against oppression by Punjabis.

This movement was supported by Indian Army, and finally East Bengal got independence from Pakistan, and Bangladesh came into existence. Talking about differences between the two Bengals, a person born in West Bengal is just Bengali, while a person born in Bangladesh is referred to as Bangladeshi Bengali. Despite religious differences, there are cultural similarities, which mean that a person is Calcutta feels culturally similar to a Bangladeshi than a Marathi or a Gujarati person.

This is mainly because of Bengali language, which is the official language in both Bengals read West Bengal and Bangladesh. Nothing else. When Jinnah made Bangladesh part of Pakistan he tried to do there what he did in Lahore and the rest of Punjab Pakistan He tried to get the masses to turn their backs on their mother tongue and embrace a foreign language from central India: Urdu.

The pathetic Punjabis in Pakistan Punjab meekly and shamelessly turned their back on their mother mother tongue but the Bangladeshis were made of stronger stuff They started rioting in Dhaka in what are now known as the 'Language Riots'. This language issue became the catalyst for freedom and so, in the name of their mother tongue, they fought for and gained their freedom.

They deserve our upmost respect for that. Lol the ignorance. Not that I expect better from hammertime. The Bengalis have one of the finest literary traditions in the subcontinent, that is true.

And they have put us Punjabis to shame by the manner in which they have defended and cherished their mother tongue. But I'm quite certain that they're not Mongoloids. Proximity to Mongoloid peoples such as the Burmese doesn't count for much, the Bangladeshis are Muslims, I can't picture them intermarrying with the Burmese Buddhists.

I also can't detect any traces of the horde when I look at them. With certain South Asian populations, like the Hazara of Afghanistan, the Mongoloid accretions are quite obvious. The Bangladeshis look exactly the same as their Bengali cousins to me - short and dark-skinned.

Dietary differences can also boil down to religion, at least in the Indian subcontinent. Muslims consume more meat, the Hindus much less so. It is common knowledge, and unsurprising knowledge, when one considers that the Muslims revere a desert warlord whereas the Hindus place greater importance in gentler and more sagacious men.

Some Punjabi's are descended from Greeks when Alexander took it over and some stayed to grow crops because of the fertile land. Greeks, Scythians, Arabs, Afghans, you name it. If they raped, pillaged or invaded, chances are that their genes are floating about somewhere in the Punjabi genepool.

They are basically the same people, Bangladeshis because they are from Bangladesh and bengalis because they come from the state of West Bengal.

Bangladesh used be a part of the state of Bengal which was also partitioned in The only difference is religion. Bangladeshi follow the desert rapist hence their involvement abroad in drugs gangs and child grooming.
